Stress is an overload of mental or emotional information to the mind, triggering an escape into fight or flight mode in order to escape the intense input. There is a fine line between stress and anxiety. With stress we know what’s worrying us – an overwhelmed feeling of managing present demands. With anxiety one becomes less aware of what causes the anxiety – a fear of impending doom that may seem to have no apparent cause. One starts to feel anxious about being anxious. Despite their differences, the results will be the same in hypnosis.

Anxiety affects the mind and body!
The body gathers ‘perceived threatening messages’ and with the speed of light responds with a fight or flight reaction. The physical and emotional symptoms are heightened. These symptoms can include increased heart rate, dry mouth, sweating, muscle tension, narrowed vision and heightened hearing and a hyper-suggestibility to the negative. Repeated symptoms can lead to the suppression of the immune system which in can lead to auto-immune disease, inflammatory disease, cancer and depression.
Why does hypnosis for stress and anxiety work?
Anxiety cannot be controlled by willpower. Willpower is part of the conscious logical mind. Your reaction to stress and anxiety is a learned behavior imprinted in the subconscious mind. Hypnosis accesses the subconscious mind making hypnosis the natural partner for stress and anxiety. You may not be able to control what stresses you out, but you can learn to control your reaction to it. The perceived threat is weakened while the calm state is enhanced and enjoyed. Anxiety and hypnosis are opposing emotions and cannot exist in the body at the same time. In hypnosis, the subconscious re-learns to automatically choose the more pleasing feeling. This pattern must be experienced and felt in hypnosis.
